Memorial Day: History Brings it Alive

The backwoods country built America!
The more that we learn about history, the better we are for it.  The younger generation does not realize it yet, but their personal appearance as well as incentives and ambitions are inextricably linked in the genes of their ancestors.  It may be a hum drum world for the youth of today, yet the past is alive with real people and events.  There was George Washington and Thomas Jefferson who helped to carve out freedoms which no country has ever managed to emulate.  While you are absorbing this and thinking, yeah, I've heard that before.  Consider. They were surrounded by our ancestors who were also shaping history.  Thus, it is a logical conclusion to assume that all of the people who have ever lived in America (as well as ourselves) contributed to the events of today. Our ancestors fought in wars...and yes, the American Revolutionary War which gave us our freedoms, and the big one, World War II, which prevented us from being swallowed up by communism under Adolph Hitler.  The thought might occur Well, they did not amount to much because they resided in the backwoods!  Indeed! The backwoods which built communities, towns and cities.  Hardships and struggles are not unique unto this generation.  Everyone has suffered. Therefore, while searching for ancestors, it is encumbent upon us to learn more about the history which surrounded them.  That information will provide more answers.  Why did they emigrate? What was the politics of the parent country? Who were their friends and neighbors?  What made them tick?  I have discovered a number of backwoods ancestors who helped to build the country simply by employing good habits and decisions and exercising virtue and patience. The past is Exciting Times!
