A New Beginning for Genealogists

We are in the age of algorithims ... good or bad.  Yes, our personal security is at stake as Americans try to digest scandal upon scandal.  It is my personal opinion that the internet was invented for genealogy. However, this genius of algorithims which pinpoint people and places, also helps us find information imbedded in the past.  In the beginning, researchers struggled to add their families in various formats of webpages and gedcom files. Slowly, many of these works disappeared. As usgenweb entered the picture, it sought volunteers to sponsor webpages for every state and county. Well intended for a source of sharing information, that process required a familiarity with writing web pages and did not seem to work too well in posting county records, etc. to the web.  Some persons have a web page for awhile, then take it down. That leaves the seriously dedicated genealogists, such as myself, whose project is a life time work. I have been adding my vast collections to the internet since 1993. Yep, in those days the computer was not menu friendly. I had to memorize all of the functions, create my own menu, among other projects, just to operate the keyboard.  There were no programs which wrote web pages. You had to figure it out. In my heart I knew that the internet was the answer for sharing and finding information, but because of the intricacy of it, wondered if it would catch on. Well, it did!  Now we have a different dilemma. We have to protect our freedoms and guard our right to the internet. There is always talk of taxing it. We must not allow the government to get control of it like they did the IRS and other agencies. That is the task before us.
